Our Philosophy
Holistic Health and Healing...
It’s Only Natural
raditional western medicine sees us as a collection of systems
and organs, an idea reinforced by high-tech diagnosis and treatment.
But that picture has always been incomplete, for we are much more
than the sum of our body parts.
There is a story that many years ago in a far-away place, two
wanderers were blindfolded and asked to describe an elephant. One
grabbed the elephant’s leg and declared the elephant a tree-like
animal. The other grasped the elephant’s trunk and declared the
elephant snake-like. Thus, neither one could have knowledge of or
respect for the elephant’s great size, weight, and memory, or its
speed, potential for rage, or gentleness.
Here at the New England Holistic Health Center we do not see you
as the sum of your physical parts. Nor do we recognize the arbitrary
mind/body separation so commonly subscribed to by western medical
practitioners. Instead, holistic practitioners understand that the
emotional affects the physical, and the physical affects the
emotional. We use prevention and intervention to promote wellness
and restore the harmony to the body and mind.
As current research uncovers connections between the nervous
system and the immune system, long-practiced holistic methods are
confirmed. Jon Kabat-Zinn, Professor of Medicine at Harvard
University, writes, “Over the past several hundred years, we’ve
tended to look at disease as being more or less a function of the
physical body, and to look at thoughts, feelings, emotions, and
social interactions as being in the domain of the mind...so
mind/body connection really has to do with understanding that the
mind and body are only artificially separate, that they’ve always
been together, and that they have an interactive influence on each
other.”

Holistic Healing Facts
lternative treatments are gaining acceptance
by insurance plans. About
one-fifth of companies now offer health benefits covering
alternative treatments other than chiropractic.
Chiropractic remains the most common form of insured alternative
care, covered by 86 percent of employers.
The most frequently used
alternative treatments were massage therapy, herbal medicine,
chiropractic and relaxation/stress reduction.
Demand for alternative care has grown as employees become more
dissatisfied with the traditional treatments and learn more about
alternatives.
Most clients used alternative therapy for more than one
reason. Improving "overall well-being" and effectiveness in treating
the condition topped the list.
Based on “Employers Cover Alternative Care,” AHHA
(American Holistic Health Association).
